Have you ever found strength when you were forceful with your life — resisting the natural flow of your life, and clenching your fist around it to try to keep things manageable? Personally, I haven’t. While that coping mechanism helps us to survive, it certainly doesn’t support us in thriving. When I meet life with that energy of forceful-ness, all it seems to do is create pressure that breaks me down, takes me out of my nature and my center, and what I truly believe of life.
It is a brave thing to armor up, so that you can face life and make it through. But please remember to refuse to allow life to harden you. Because it is a braver thing to soften, so that you can experience life with more gentleness, joy, and hopefully self-compassion too.
